Abide Awarded Grant to Research Emotional Wellness

SAN FRANCISCO, August 30, 2017 Abide, the Christian meditation and prayer app, has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Impact Foundation and the Maclellan Foundation to study how meditation on biblical principles affects emotional wellness. The funding will assist Abide in its showcasing the long-lasting benefits of spending time meditating on the Word of God.

“We are so excited to be receiving this grant to further our research on Christian meditation,” said Neil Ahlsten, CEO and co-founder of Abide. “We have seen some of the emotional health benefits that come from meditation on God’s word but now we will be able to take our study to the next level.”

Through internal surveys, Abide previously found people who practice Christian meditation report less anxiety, lower stress and reduced depression – the world’s No. 1 illness, according to the World Health Organization. In one Abide survey, approximately 70 percent of users polled reported having mild to chronic stress, which is slightly lower than the national average. Over 94 percent of these individuals say that Christian meditation has helped them better manage their stress.

Complete analysis and reporting for this research will run until the end of 2017. Abide’s research team, which consists of individuals from Google and other leading technology companies, will begin with conducting and analyzing data based on the behaviors of 10,000 Abide users who have consented to be part of this groundbreaking study. Additionally, Abide and its parent company Carpenter’s Code will analyze more than 1 million prayer sessions on Abide.

The team will investigate the relative frequency of engagement, sharing and receiving content, and the conversion rates of users of the app into shares of its content.
