“ANGELS” Star- Studded Hope and Faith-Filled Musical Album Releases Today
NEW YORK, Oct. 27, 2017 – “ANGELS,” an original studio cast recording, with performances by two-time Tony nominee Laura Osnes (“Bandstand,” “Cinderella”), Tony nominee Josh Young (“Amazing Grace,” “Jesus Christ Superstar”), Tony nominee Robert Cuccioli (“Jekyll & Hyde”) and Alan H. Green (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “School of Rock”), and featuring musical arrangements from veteran worship leaders David Holmes, Darlene Zschech’s personal music director and former C3 Global Music Director, and international worship artist and educator, Rev. Dr. Daniel Thornton, releases today from Broadway Records.
“ANGELS” is a faith-filled adventure about the ancient war between the angels and Lucifer’s demons. This timeless tale of hope versus despair, angels versus demons, is told through the eyes of Sera. Though she is gifted with the power to control light, she aspires to a more heroic role. Facing the opposition of Lucifer and the chaos he has created, Sera must find the courage to rise in victory over him and fulfill her true purpose.
The long-awaited album, produced by Rich Fowler, was celebrated this past Wednesday during an exclusive party at The Gold Bar in New York. During the packed event, Osnes, Young, Cuccioli and Green were joined by the TADA Youth Theatre to perform selections from the musical. In addition, producers Marcus Cheong and Mark Kang shared the incredible story of “ANGELS.”
“’ANGELS,’ at the core, is a story of hope, friendship and purpose,” stated Cheong. “Amidst the battle between the Angels and their fallen foes led by Lucifer, one angel, Sera, the Angel of Light, begins an adventure to discover her true purpose and learn what friendship really means.”
In 2008, “ANGELS,” was weeks away from its off-Broadway debut when the stock market crashed and “ANGELS” had to shut its doors. Now with renewed support and the release of the “ANGELS” album, Cheong and Kang are well on their way to realizing the dream of a full-stage production of “ANGELS” in the next season.
“We are incredibly grateful that God has allowed us to share the message of ‘ANGELS’ through this release,” said Cheong. “We have been incredibly blessed and pray that this message of hope, friendship and purpose will be an inspiration to all who listen to the album.”
Additionally, Cheong and Kang announced that as of Wednesday, they would be accepting licensing requests from schools, churches and theatre programs interested in performing the musical.
“To me, my love of the stage began in the school and church productions of shows and the local community theaters; these quite literally changed my life,” said Cheong. “We have a vision to release ‘ANGELS’ so it can be performed at the schools and communities where this love of theatre began for me.”
