‘Fixer Upper’ Stars Chip & Joanna Gaines Featured in Newest I Am Second Film

Couple shares insight into the unique chemistry that has led to the popularity of their No. 1 HGTV television show

PLANO, Texas, October 18, 2016 – Chip and Joanna Gaines, stars of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper,” owners of the Magnolia Market, and authors of the new book, “The Magnolia Story,” have won the hearts of millions with their impeccable eye for design and their magnetic chemistry. Now, the couple is giving viewers insight into how their unique personalities have strengthened their relationship in a new film released today on IAmSecond.com.

The film, part of I Am Second’s White Chair Film Series, features Chip and Joanna speaking separately about the qualities of their significant other before joining together on screen. This is the first time in White Chair Film Series history that guests sit side-by-side in two of I Am Second’s iconic white chairs.

As Chip and Joanna confess in the new film, they are the epitome of “opposites attract.”

“If you give Chip a boundary, he’s going to break that boundary. If you give him a rule, he’s not going to follow it. And if you tell him, ‘You can’t go past this line,’ he’ll put his toe over it,” said Joanna. “I like safety. I like knowing what’s coming. I don’t want to be surprised. I don’t know if we would have dated in college if we would have known each other.”

And yet it is their unique differences that they attribute to the strength of their relationship.

“I would have been the guy on a horse back riding off into the wilderness – that’s who I sort of was by nature, and Jo could not be more opposite than that,” Chip said. “I used to drive my truck and I would play a little game with myself to see how out of gas I could get without in fact running completely out of gas. And she was like, ‘Why would anyone want to play that?’”

Joanna says for someone who is a “rule follower to a tee,” being with Chip is an adventure. Yet without Chip’s fearless spirit, the Gaines would not be where they are today.

“If I didn’t have Chip Gaines in my life, I’d still be dreaming in my head but not acting it out,” she said.

It was at Chip’s request that Joanna agreed to have their home renovation business become a reality television show for HGTV. Today, “Fixer Upper” is the network’s most popular show. More than 25 million viewers tuned in to watch its third season.

IA2GainesbwsmallWhile Chip declares Joanna is a “bit of a wallflower,” he credits her structured personality with helping him find freedom to be himself.

“I think that’s one of the reasons that I love her like I do,” Chip said. “I feel like she knows me in a way that has caused me to stop acting. I feel like I’ve been an actor, I’ve been a character my whole life. I’ve always tried to prove something to someone.”

In a culture where differences often break apart marriages, the Gaines’ story as told through I Am Second proves differences aren’t always bad. To see the full film, visit http://www.iamsecond.com.
