Emmy Nominee Paul Walter Hauser Shares His Story Beyond the Camera in New I Am Second Film Series

Hollywood’s Award-Winning ‘Black Bird’ Star Opens Up About Body Image, Addiction, Divorce and Remarriage

PLANO, Texas, Jan. 11, 2024 — In a timely new White Chair Film series released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Golden Globe-winning Actor Paul Walter Hauser shares his life’s journey alongside his wife Amy – just in time for the upcoming Emmys, airing January 15, in which Hauser is currently nominated for an “Outstanding Supporting Actor” award for his notable role as infamous serial killer Larry Hall in “Black Bird.”

Beyond his dark role of portraying a psychopath, Hauser is widely recognized for his iconic comedic performances in Hollywood. But who is this man beyond the camera?

Rare, vulnerable and raw, Hauser opens up about his own failures, the ripple effects of his choices and, subsequently, the depths of the rich love he has come to know on the other side of it all. In this gripping four-part series, the Hauser’s share their story – apart and together – weaving the audience through the compelling hardships of their lives that led them where they are today.

Episode 1 overviews their personal lives, from childhood to Hollywood to meeting one another. The film details Paul’s struggle with identity, an eating disorder, his start in television and opening the door to drugs – meanwhile, telling Amy’s story of escaping an abusive relationship and turning to alcohol.

“I tried to take on the [persona of] other people that I deemed like me – Chris Farley, John Belushi, [eventually] Philip Seymour Hoffman,” shares Hauser. “What I would later come to realize is that all those guys are dead. The common denominator is not just that they’re talented; the common denominator is that they’re all very depressed...and addicted...and died way too young.”

Episodes 2 & 3 dive into the couple’s swift dating timeline and their short-lived marriage, where Hauser filed for divorce in the middle of his wife’s pregnancy with their firstborn son, ultimately sending him into a severe depression, substance abuse and the crux consideration of taking his own life.

“I was...thinking about suicide; it wasn’t a thought I had all the time, but it really made residence in my head and lived rent-free when I had been drinking,” Hauser reveals, talking about his lowest moment. “I realized I [had] to get sober.”

Episode 4 shares the result of Hauser’s decision to get sober and reconcile with his family, concluding with where the Hauser's are today – living in an entirely different truth – filled with love, learning, sobriety and healthy accountability practices, inclusive of therapy and counseling. Hauser admits, referencing the growth and happiness he has come to know through his dedication in becoming a connected husband and present father, “I thought our marriage was over, and it was really just beginning.”

“Every day, I see the changed Paul,” Hauser’s wife, Amy, concludes. “He shows up every day, and he loves us so well...He’s still home to me.”

White Chair Film Encourages Others to Share Their Story and Live Second in Active Next Steps of Faith

I Am Second Features Former Meth Addict’s Story of Falling in Love with Drugs and Now Living a Radically-Free Life

PLANO, Texas, Dec. 14, 2023 — In the new White Chair Film, “The Storyteller,” released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Tyler Brown, a strategic ministry coordinator at e3 Partners, shares his journey from a life of addiction to that of inspiration, unpacking his story of brokenness to living a radically-free life.

At the top of his class in school, an all-star in sports and a high achiever, Brown was on the path to success as a young teen. Yet, when he was introduced to drugs at age 16, his whole life changed. From marijuana to crystal meth, Brown shares how he gave up everything to satisfy his all-consuming addiction.

“I fell in love with a drug, and it absolutely destroyed by life… The drugs had so much power over me, I would do whatever it took to get them,” Brown shares. “I was lost; I was broken... I didn’t care about myself anymore; it destroyed relationships that I had with my family. All I was doing was getting high. I was all alone… I was stealing, in and out of jail, in and out of rehabs, halfway houses, homeless...”

In the film, Brown recalls a significant night, five years into his addiction, when he found himself entranced — burning a cross.

“I don’t know what was in my heart, but it was anti-Jesus,” confesses Brown. “That was a testimony of where my life was at. I woke up the next morning and was awakened a little bit to that reality, [asking], ‘Wow, where have I let myself go?’”

It was then that Brown launched into a desperate drive to turn his life around. Upon finding community in a church, he was ultimately inspired to give his life to Jesus, surrendering his addiction in a cry for heavenly intervention.

In his newfound freedom, Brown was excited to share his profound story with anyone and everyone. That is, until he began to question his own qualifications in doing so. New to faith, newly married and new to Bible College, Brown started to feel unfit to share the Gospel with others.

“Something [had] started to shift in my heart,” shares Brown. “I started to lose a little bit of that original passion that I had for Jesus. I started to get really insecure, [thinking], ‘...How am I going to preach the Gospel to people if I don’t really know what the [Gospel is]?’ So I started to kind of get lost...To the point where I wasn’t even telling people about Jesus because I didn’t know if I was...equipped to or had enough knowledge to.”

Yet, he was encouraged otherwise by a group of friends, urging him to serve and share about Jesus in his own neighborhood. Today, Brown lives a radically different life of joy and boldness, honoring God by actively sharing his story as an encouragement to the lost, addicted and brokenhearted. In his obedience to this calling, he acts as a prime example of how God can use anyone, no matter their history, circumstances – or lack of qualifications – to share the Gospel.

“[Before,] I was a nobody; I was lost...broken...helpless...hopeless...I was on the bottom of a bathroom floor, smoking a crackpipe all alone, naked,” Brown says. “And now... here I am today... I’m a new person, and it doesn’t make sense. But I behold it, and I want others to experience it too.”

Country Music Artist Meghan Patrick Shares Her Story in New ‘I Am Second’ Film

From Abuse, Loneliness and Despair to Freedom, Friendships and Lasting Hope

PLANO, Texas, Nov. 9, 2023 — In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Canadian-born talent Meghan Patrick shares about her journey from hopelessness to fulfillment, including how unexpected friendships and a newfound faith directed her purpose.

Growing up, Patrick had a young, successful start in competitive snowboarding and an ever-developing interest in music. Following a sudden significant injury, her snowboarding vocation was halted. It was then that Patrick found a deepened comfort in music as she began to avidly play and sing, not knowing at the time that this would be the divinely inspired grassroots of her future career.

But before her move to “Music City,” Patrick found herself in the middle of a violently abusive relationship.

“It started as emotional abuse and then led to physical abuse,” Patrick shares. “I used to be the girl that said, ‘Oh I’ll never be that girl; I’ll never stay with a guy that abuses me.’ But when you’re in it, that person has taken a lot of time to make you feel like you’ve done something to deserve it. It was the loneliest time in my life.”

As the abuse got worse and worse, out of desperation and utter fear for her life, Patrick cried out to God in prayer, begging him to save her. And while she hadn’t grown up with faith — and didn’t know if God existed — she continued to pray.

“I felt so silly at first, [thinking], ‘What are you doing? Who are you talking to? There's nobody there; nobody's coming to save you.’ But I just kept doing it. I didn't know what else to do,” says Patrick. “I [thought], ‘God, maybe it's too late for me to talk to you; I know I never have before. Maybe I'm too far gone. Maybe I'm not worth your love, but God, I just want to feel like myself again. I just want to feel safe again. I want to get out of here, and just help me do that.’”

Patrick attributes her rescue to those answered prayers. Following a miserable night of violence, she called the police, and a divine conversation with a “God-sent” police officer ultimately helped her escape her situation.

Shortly thereafter, Patrick moved to Nashville, where God orchestrated several chance encounters, resulting in friendships with Nashville Artists Lainey Wilson and Kasey Tyndall. These friends showed her something different: authentic, Christ-inspired love. They encouraged Patrick in her talents, confidence and faith but also empowered her in ways she had never known before, ultimately compelling her to share her powerful story with others — specifically through her songs. In fact, the film highlights the context for Patrick’s testimony song, “Praying Right,” inspired by these faith-filled friends and her personal experience attending church with them for the very first time.

"I was really scared of judgment or that I wouldn't be welcomed [in church].” Patrick explains. “And I'm happy to say that's the complete opposite of what my experience has been. So, I wrote this song.”

Today, Patrick lives a life she could have never imagined. Beyond her vindication journey, the Christ-centered friendships formed and a divinely ordained career, the added elements in Patrick's story (including her baptism and recent marriage to country music artist Mitchell Tenpenny) reveal just how full-circle her life has come, serving as an empowering message of hope for those in the darkest of circumstances.

Duck Dynasty’s Bryan Rucker Shares His Story of Recovery and Belonging in New ‘I Am Second’ Film

How a Once-Hopeless Man Became a Hope Dealer

PLANO, Texas, Oct. 5, 2023 — On the heels of the release of “The Blind,” global storytelling organization I Am Second released a new White Chair Film featuring Bryan Rucker, whose life was impacted by the Robertson family. The White Chair Film shares how Rucker overcame the difficulties of a broken life when he was welcomed into a community and given a second chance—even amid moments of weakness in his ongoing struggle with alcohol and drug addiction.

Growing up in a highly disadvantaged area of Houston, Rucker was exposed to gangs and drugs from a young age. At age 13, he endured extreme guilt following the unsettling death of his mother, thus inciting his profuse anger, the driving force behind his headlong dive into his own highly lucrative drug trafficking operation.

Following an arrest and incarceration sentence from an associated gang-related fatality, Rucker was released from prison and found himself right back home where he had started. Desperately searching for any way to earn a living without turning back to drug trafficking, he moved all over Texas, applying for job after job, receiving rejection after rejection.

“I remember I talked to a friend of mine,” shares Rucker, “He told me, ‘Man, you're doing everything you're supposed to be doing by not involving yourself in any gang activity—not selling drugs, trying to take care of your grandma—but you don't have any hope in anything.’ And it was true.”

Hopeless and nearly out of options, Rucker unexpectedly came across the Duck Commander business, home of the famous television show “Duck Dynasty,” owned and operated by the Robertson family. He applied for a job, interviewed in a candid and unconventional way, and to his surprise, got hired.

“They took a liking to me based on the way that I worked,” says Rucker, talking about the Robertsons. “I was always honest with people about where I came from and what I had been through. And so, they just kind of started showing me love... They told me that they cared about me. They gave me responsibility. And that was something that nobody had ever done before.”

Beyond giving Rucker an invaluable opportunity—and later, an undeserved second chance—the Robertsons surrounded the man that no one believed in with a community of support unlike any he had ever known, ultimately stretching his faith and empowering him to take steps forward in his recovery journey and toward an especially meaningful career.

Business: A. Larry Ross Communications ‘I Am Second’ Features National Public Speaker, Nick Vujicic, the Inspiration Born Without Arms and Legs

PLANO, Texas, Sept. 7, 2022 — In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, author, public speaker and Nick V. Ministries Founder and CEO, Nick Vujicic, shares his compelling life story — born without limbs he faced his physical brokenness yet came away with a hope and message of encouragement for the brokenhearted.

Without any medical explanation or warning, Vujicic was born with Tetra-amelia syndrome, a condition characterized by the absence of all four limbs. Three sonograms had failed to reveal complications, and when the doctors first saw him, they profusely apologized for not giving his parents the option to abort him.

“I knew I had no arms and legs, but I didn't think it was such a big deal until the world told me that I was an alien, that I was ugly, that I wasn't good enough,” recalled Vujicic. “And the affirmation-need of knowing that ‘I have value,’ that ‘I have purpose,’ that ‘I am special,’ that ‘there's not another me’ — that was really difficult to believe when it seemed to me that in my life, I was the one who missed out.”

Plagued by his reality, Vujicic struggled to understand his purpose and value. At a very young age, he began to lose hope of ever having a functional and thriving life. Ultimately, Vujicic convinced himself that there was no hope, leading to severe depression and eventually attempted suicide.

But that wasn’t the end. Following a series of unexpected events, it was eventually the biblical story of the blind man that led Vujicic to finally begin to experience something he had been living without for most of his life: hope. Today, Vujicic has delivered more than 3,500 speeches across 78 countries, sharing his powerful life transformation with 9.7 million people face-to-face and 2.8 billion over television — empowering countless people to experience the very source of hope and life, while also encouraging those who already know the boundless freedom found in Christ to share it with others.

“If I don’t get my miracle, I can be one,” said Vujicic. “Whatever your brokenness is, know that God has not left you. He will never leave you. Do not ever underestimate what God can do with your broken pieces. If God can use a man without arms and legs to be his hands and feet, then God can use any willing heart.”

New ‘I Am Second’ Film Tells Immigrant’s Story of Starting Over: “From Nothing to Everything”

Cuban National Encourages Other Immigrants to Maintain Hope Through Hardship

PLANO, Texas, August 10, 2023 — In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Cuban-born immigrant and Dallas-area megachurch pastor Gilberto Corredera shares about his surprising transformation, the difficult transition of moving his family to America and how his dreams ultimately came true.

Growing up during the hardships of Cuban communism, a broken home life with an alcoholic father and teenage years on the streets, Corredera was an unlikely candidate to become a church pastor. But, when he was 18, a friend told him something he had never heard before and he decided to put his faith in Jesus Christ. He began sharing God’s love, leading a personal ministry in Cuba. Eventually, however, Corredera had to leave Cuba to take advantage of the rare opportunity to give his wife and two young daughters a better life in the United States, even though this meant starting over.

“When we moved to America, the only thing that I wanted was a better future for my family and the opportunity to keep doing my ministry,” shared Corredera. “When I started looking for a job, the only job that I could find was washing dishes. And, honestly, that was shocking for me; that took all my pride away...[It] was a very difficult time of tears and prayers.”

He continued working diligently in his humble job position, motivated by the necessity of providing for his family.

It was within his burdensome toil that he found hope. Working alongside fellow Spanish speakers from different cultures presented Corredera with a special camaraderie that created a profound impact in the lives of those around him. Beyond becoming an inspirational voice of encouragement and joy for other immigrants, this humbling opportunity changed everything for Corredera, eventually opening doors for him to follow his dreams.

“Being in a new country can be difficult because no matter what you were back in your country — maybe you were a doctor, an engineer, a teacher — sometimes you have to start from nothing,” Corredera candidly continues. “In my case, [that meant] washing dishes. For others, it’s working in a restaurant [or] cleaning houses. My [advice] is always don’t lose hope, keep working hard [and] keep pushing, because it’s worth it. And at the end of the day there is hope.”

Today, Corredera is the pastor of Prestonwood in Español, a ministry of Prestonwood Baptist Church, located in Plano, Texas. He leads over 3,000 members across three campuses and reaches people in 59 countries through Prestonwood’s weekly broadcast ministry.

Robichaux Details Brave Return to Afghanistan to Rescue Friend in ‘Second Edition’ Film

How One Veteran’s Powerful Story of Friendship Ultimately Led to Life-Saving International Missions in Afghanistan and Ukraine

PLANO, Texas, June 28, 2023 — Ahead of Independence Day, global storytelling organization, I Am Second and former Force Recon Marine, Chad Robichaux, provide insider details on how his choice to be obedient led to an expanded Special Forces mission overseas to rescue a close friend and others who had been persecuted by the Taliban. In this exclusive “Second Edition[JS1] ” film, Robichaux provides inspiration for others who feel God’s calling on their lives.

Previously in an I Am Second White Chair Film, Robichaux shared his powerful story of overcoming PTSD and restoration of his faith after retiring from the military. Throughout his time of recovery and creating The Mighty Oaks Foundation, Robichaux had also faced the difficult reality that his ex-military partner in Afghanistan, Aziz, had remained in increasingly grave danger as a justice-seeking Afghani national living in this “terrorist safe haven.”

“I can count three tangible times he saved my life, but I would say he saved my life every single day,” said Robichaux, fondly recalling his special partnership and brotherhood with Aziz from his time in the Marines overseas. “We were so close that when we were not operating, I didn’t go back to base; I went to Aziz’s home; I lived in his home with his family. We did life together.”

Although Robichaux was safe and back in America following his military retirement, he spent years with an increasingly burdened heart for his dear friend, knowing that Aziz and his family were living in constant terror, actively hunted by the Taliban. However, when the U.S. military was withdrawn in 2021, the persecution these Afghani military partners experienced was immediately exacerbated. With no ally protection or defense, these Taliban targets, like Aziz, were left behind to die.

“There’s probably one or two people in the world that I would cash in everything precious to me for, and Aziz is one of them” said Robichaux, recalling the very instant God moved his heart to action. “I’m here; my wife and children get to have me because he saved by life. I decided in that moment that we were going to go get Aziz.”

Compelled by friendship and divine obedience, Robichaux began plans to spearhead a bold special operations mission designed not only to rescue Aziz and his family, but to gather as many local Afghani allies, their families, Americans and Christians who would be persecuted as possible. From the moment this courageous decision was born, the process which ensued was “just not humanly possible,” yet, came together “miraculously.”

This rescue mission eventually inspired other rescue efforts, specifically when Ukraine was later invaded by Russia, allowing for many more lives to be saved and transformed. In fact, it was also within this mission that Robichaux and his team were able to rapidly reach and rescue Fox News’s Benjamin Hall after the catastrophic bombing that resulted in Hall’s nearly-fatal injury. This was all accomplished thanks to one man’s vision to help others, his obedience to God’s calling and the many divinely-governed safe paths along the way.

To watch the exclusive ‘Second Edition’ film, visit www.iamsecond.com/film/chad-robichaux-second-edition. For a deeper look into Robichaux’s full testimony, watch his first White Chair film.

About the Book: ‘Saving Aziz’

In this epic real-life story, Chad Robichaux details the incredible rescue missions that evacuated not only his long-time friend and interpreter, Aziz, but also more than 17,000 Afghans and allies who were left in the grip of the Taliban’s violent regime as the United States military withdrew from Afghanistan.

Saving Aziz gives the behind-the-scenes view of the evacuation efforts that saved thousands from the Taliban during a historic humanitarian crisis. In this gripping and eye-opening account, Robichaux describes his experiences with the deep, rich and complex culture of Afghanistan and its people; his direct interactions with those in the Taliban; his perspective on the twenty-year war that took place under four presidents; and his inside view of what happened in Afghanistan during the United States’ hasty withdrawal.

Rising Female Rapper Wande Shares the Source of Her Joy and Confidence in New I Am Second Film

Nigerian-born Artist Credits Her Faith for Sense of Significance

PLANO, Texas, May 11, 2023 — In the new White Chair Film released today by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Christian hip-hop artist, Wande, recounts how living out her faith helped her find her purpose and identity. The Austin, Texas native is Reach Record’s first female artist in the label's legacy, an achievement she couldn’t have imagined in her youth.

As a young teenager, Wande lacked confidence and often chased the approval of others by following the latest trends or behaviors of her peers. Upon discovering an interest in Christian rap music, the development of her faith and the direction of her future changed completely.

Born in Nigeria, where the culture is roughly 50% Christian and 50% Muslim, Wande had both influences in her home. She felt drawn to Christianity, despite her father’s deep disapproval. Her curiosity about God led her to search on the internet for Christian rap, the first result of which was the song "Prayin' for You," by Grammy Award-winning Artist Lecrae. She was instantly inspired and wanted to find more faith-filled hip-hop music like it.

A ninth-grade class assignment gave Wande the opportunity to present a project in rap form. The positive response she received from classmates boosted her confidence and inspired her to begin using the genre as a vehicle to share her story.

“My faith is the core of my music,” said Wande. “It’s the reason behind what I do and without it my music wouldn’t be the same.”

Wande’s journey to signing her first contract with a recording label involved overcoming self-doubt, learning to trust God’s voice and standing up for herself amid the expectations of the culture. Upon choosing to be unashamed as a follower of Jesus, artist and woman, she was able to step into the plans the Lord had for her.

“This love that I was chasing in people and in friends and in validation from other people, God had it all along,” shares Wande. “The Bible verse that says the Lord has plans far beyond what you could think or imagine is honestly very true for my life.”

Today, Wande aspires to mentor other women in finding their confidence and hopes her journey will make it easier for other female rappers to pursue a career in the highly male-dominated Christian hip hop genre.

‘I Am Second’ Releases Powerful Story of Joshua Broome’s Escape from the Porn Industry

Adult Film “Performer of the Year” Shares How He Defeated the Labels of His Past

PLANO, Texas, April 6, 2023 — In the new White Chair Film released today by global storytelling organization, I Am Second, digital evangelist, podcast host and speaker, Joshua Broome, vulnerably opens up about the events which led to his freedom following six dark years working in the adult entertainment industry.

Originally from South Carolina, Broome moved to Hollywood in his twenties to pursue an acting career. Struggling to make it, he reluctantly accepted a role in an X-rated film. The shame and humiliation he felt following the experience sent him on a downward spiral of self-loathing and hopelessness. Buying into the lie that he would forever be characterized by his decision, that first film turned into 1,000 more, solidifying his status as one of the most successful adult film stars in the world.

Broome obtained fame, wealth and traveled the world all to find out that none of those would fill the emptiness in his heart.  At the height of his success, he was awarded “Performer of the Year,” an esteemed accolade that he expected would bring him fulfillment.

“[Success] left me empty and broken and disappointed,” shared Broome. “It didn’t fix the pain that I had; it escalated the pain. It deepened the depression. I found myself in a place so deep and so dark that I was certain that I didn’t have a life ahead of me worth living.”

Battling haunting thoughts of suicide and emotional scars, Broome made a life-changing decision to abandon his adult film career, and the pseudonym which made him famous.

“It had been almost a year since I had heard my name. I didn’t exist.”

This sudden realization crushed him. He quit the business and began taking small steps to shed his past and find his former identity again. He also experienced a sweetly divine encounter that changed Broome’s life forever.

“Today I’m a passionate communicator of a message of restoration,” affirms Broome. “I am healed through the life-giving power found in Jesus and spent years replacing lies and labels with God’s truth. I’ve been married for six years, we have three sons, and I have devoted my life to those who feel like their life is over because of a circumstance or situation. It’s never too late to change the course of your life.”

We feel this immense amount of responsibility to them, to keep doing this and take this as long as God allows us this platform to continue to do the things we love to do.”

From Sportscaster to Prison Ministry, Rudy Kalis Shares His Story of Finding Purpose in ‘Second Edition’ Film

I Am Second Releases New Prison Ministry Resources

PLANO, Texas, Jan. 19, 2023 — In the latest short film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Emmy award-winning sportscaster, Rudy Kalis, shares how his heart was humbled and his faith was strengthened through the work of prison ministry.

Kalis, who spent decades as one of the nation’s premier sports newscasters, retired in 2017.   Leaving a career that often elevated his ego, he was humbled upon discovering a new passion in the service of sharing his faith with imprisoned men in need of hope.

“We featured Rudy Kalis’ inspiring life story in a White Chair Film a few years ago,” said John Humphrey, Vice President of I Am Second. “When we learned of his dedication to sharing the Gospel within the prison system, we felt compelled to produce an exclusive ‘Second Edition’ film to spread awareness of the open hearts that exist within prison walls. Kalis is willing to share the love of Christ to make a difference in places that are tough, messy and unglamorous. It’s a story that should be told.”

Upon accepting an invitation to visit the Riverbend Maximum Security Prison in Nashville, Kalis knew right away this was how he should invest the second chapter of his life.

“The minute I walked in, I said, ‘This is my world,’” recalls Kalis.

Conversations with inmates that began about sports turned to discussions about life. As the men challenged him with questions, it helped him hone the craft of communicating his faith.

“I learned quickly that consistency would be key. These guys are sponges because they’ve lost everything. As I visited often to facilitate bible studies, I didn’t want to just deliver ‘religious talk,’ but instead, to talk about real things like anger, forgiving yourself...things that lead to deeper conversations.”

Kalis volunteers for Men of Valor, a Nashville-based prison ministry committed to winning incarcerated men to Christ and discipling them. Over the years, Kalis has developed friendships with men in gang units and with those on death row. It’s here that Kalis finds common ground with men who are seemingly nothing like him. The connection and sense of purpose keep Kalis coming back.

“I would’ve never thought I’d go into prison ministry. I didn’t give it any thought, but it’s perfect. Hebrews 13 says, ‘Remember the prisoners as though you are chained with them.’  And that’s what my whole life is. I’ve concluded I’ll go to the prison, my health willing and God willing, until the day I die. I don’t know how much longer I’ve got, but I want to finish like a man of God.”

Britney Ruby Miller Shares About the Fight of Her Life in New I Am Second Film

Out of Perfection and Into Freedom, Restauranteur Shares her Journey of Getting Knocked Down and Getting Back up Again...and Again

PLANO, Texas, December 13, 2022 — In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Britney Ruby Miller, CEO of Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment, talks about her journey up the food chain from hostess to CEO and her long battle with anxiety and perfectionism along the way.

Growing up in a successful family-owned business, comprised of seven restaurants, 850 employees and awarded “Best Steakhouses in America” by Travel + Leisure and USA Today, Britney placed high expectations on herself and constantly sought perfection. Lack of sleep and stress manifested itself in seizures during her senior year of college. This anxiety would follow her through school and eventually bleed into every part of her adult life.

“I feel like I've been a fighter my whole life,” Britney asserts, referring to her family’s business, her marriage, her children and her mental battle.

In the newest White Chair film from I Am Second, Britney discusses all the challenges in life that knocked her down:

  • Fear and anxiety about her health and the wake-up call she had in college to take care of herself and her well-being

  • Learning from her husband, Caleb Miller, a former linebacker with the Cincinnati Bengals, that he had been unfaithful to her during their engagement and was suffering from depression

  • The agony of a miscarriage, a neural tube defect and an ectopic pregnancy, discovering that she had a very slim chance of ever having children

  • Being hit by a drunk driver and dealing with the “what ifs”

  • The heartbreak of having to shut down restaurants and furlough 600 employees overnight during the COVID-19 pandemic

Through it all, Britney has learned that she gains nothing from perfectionism and has found healing from anxiety and fear.

“If I’m being told something in my head that is not of God, which is fear, which is not love, then I know it is a lie,” says Britney in the film. “I have moments when my anxiety creeps in and I immediately say to myself, ‘Recognize that this is a lie.’ And I speak truth into my spirit. I pray.”

She also shares the reason for never giving up was that her “ride or die” was always in her corner, encouraging Miller to lean on her faith in the depths of challenges.

“It’s all worth it to fight: to fight for your life, fight for your marriage, fight for your well-being,” Britney concluded. “I just fought like crazy and God honored that.”

‘Fastest Pastor’ Perseveres in the Race for What Matters Most in New I Am Second Film, ‘Chasing Hope’

Driver Don Wickstrum Shares Inspirational Back Story of Making it to the Top in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

PLANO, Texas, November 16, 2022 — Global storytelling organization I Am Second has released an exclusive short documentary that offers viewers an intimate look at entrepreneur, pastor and racer, Don Wickstrum’s years-long journey to conquer the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb while leaning on his faith and battling an aggressive cancer diagnosis.

“Even though life may not always seem to present you with the best hand, the best place to put that hand is in the hands of God,” says Wickstrum.

With uplifting messages that will encourage viewers in their walk with God, “Chasing Hope” releases just in time for families and friends to watch it together during the holiday season.

"This story is for anyone who is searching for hope,” said John Humphrey, Vice President of I Am Second. “We knew Don for several years before his diagnosis, and when we saw what he was trying to accomplish at Pikes Peak, we jumped at the chance to share his powerful story with a larger audience. Don represents his faith in an engaging, authentic way. He has a desire to share the eternal hope he’s found in Christ and he puts his faith into action. That’s an example for all of us.”

Growing up in a household that experienced significant hardship, Wickstrum wrestled with his faith and lacked a sense of hope for many years. Holding tightly to his childhood dream of racing Pikes Peak, he made a deal with his father to first go to college, where Wickstrum declared himself an atheist and set out to disprove religion.

“Probably midway through my sophomore year, I was getting really fed up with this whole Christianity thing because what I started to discover is that it wasn’t as easy to prove wrong as I thought,” Wickstrum recalls. “I specifically remember coming across this moral dilemma, thinking, ‘Okay, I admit it, the Bible’s true and this is legit, but I don’t know that I want to give my life to it.’”

One evening that he’ll never forget, Wickstrum had a powerful, divine encounter with God that would forever change the trajectory of his life. He surrendered his life to Christ and felt true hope in his heart for the first time.

In the following years, Wickstrum became successfully involved in racing, ministry and serial entrepreneurship, owning one of the largest robotic integrators in America. However, in late 2018, everything changed when he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of colon cancer, forcing him to sell his business and evaluate his future.

“As I prayed, I really felt like God was opening the door for me to race at Pike’s Peak,” explains Don. “I sought my wife’s counsel on it, and she asked me, ‘If eight-year-old you had heard of a guy like you that was facing a tough circumstance, and yet, he was able to accomplish his dream of going to Pike’s Peak, do you think that would have given you hope?’”

In pondering his wife’s profound question, the Fastest Pastor, as he’s affectionately known by church members and fans, committed to put the wheel in God’s hands and pursue Pikes Peak, aspiring to share his faith and inspire hope in others.

The second-oldest motorsports race in America, the Pikes Peak race has no equal. Boasting 156 turns over a 12.42-mile course, beginning at over 9,300 feet and ending at 14,115 feet above sea level, the harrowing course has long served as a driver’s proving ground. Conquering the climb has been a dream of Wickstrum’s since he first saw the race on TV at eight years old.

Steven Curtis Chapman Reflects on the Mountains and Valleys of Life in New I Am Second Film

Christian Music Icon Offers Encouragement, Says He Still Has Stories to Tell Through Music

PLANO, Texas, October 27, 2022 — In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Christian recording artist Steven Curtis Chapman shares how brokenness, grief and his tendency to be a “fixer” influenced his music over his career that has spanned 35 years.

With a remarkable 49 No. 1 singles, Chapman is the most awarded artist in Christian music history.

“Really my songs have just been kind of tearing pages out of the journal of my life, and saying, ‘This is what I'm learning, this is what I'm struggling with,’” said Chapman. “I'm taking three steps forward, I take two steps back. Some days, 20 steps back. I'm going to talk to you about that journey as honestly and as vulnerably as I can.’”

Over the course of his life, the singer, songwriter and musician has experienced mountaintops beyond anything he could have imagined and deeper valleys than he would ever have expected. Building a family with his wife, Mary Beth, included the blessing of three biological children and later adopting three more. When a tragic accident took the life of their five-year-old daughter 14 years ago, it resulted in a long season of the deepest grief imaginable.

“For a guy who's a fixer to ultimately face the most unfixable thing you could ever imagine as a parent, and as a husband... I asked God, ‘Are we going to survive this?,” said Chapman in the film. “How am I going to lead my family through this?”

Chapman relayed that it was his foundation of faith and deep trust in the Lord that supplied the hope he and his family needed to endure and heal from their pain and grief. They held tightly to the knowledge that we only see a little part of the story, and the story isn’t over yet.

“The promise of God is that there's a day coming when He's going to wipe every tear from our eyes,” noted Chapman. “He's going to make all the things that are broken whole again. And He’s not going to waste any part of our story. As I’ve held onto that and written songs about it, I can’t shut up about it, because it’s what’s kept me alive. I want to keep telling that story. I want to keep writing those songs.”

Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks Chaplain Jonathan Evans Talks Winning, Losing and Finding Peace in I Am Second Film

White Chair Film Shares Story of Finding Purpose in Life’s Lows

PLANO, Texas, Sept. 29, 2022 — In the new White Chair film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Jonathan Evans shares his story about facing rejection and failure and how he eventually found victory on a path he hadn’t expected. Evans, a former NFL player and Baylor Bear, is the Dallas Cowboys’ and Dallas Mavericks’ Chaplain.

As the son of pastor, ministry leader and author Tony Evans, Jonathan Evans grew up observing his family succeed in each of their own endeavors. Evans found himself searching for a false sense of identity in “winning,” specifically in the game of football.

“Winning. That’s what I had gotten used to from a very young age,” Evans starts. “I wanted to make sure that I shined and that people knew my name based on my athletic ability and what I was able to do. That's where I thought I would find my value and, ultimately, find myself.”

Evans' diligence and passion for the game led him to play football for Baylor University. From there, he looked forward to a hopeful future in professional football, only to find himself released from his dream NFL team — the Dallas Cowboys—and drafted to the European Developmental League, where Evans felt lost and without purpose.

While in Europe, Evans describes how in a peak moment of internal discord, he asked God to show him where he should be. In that very instant, a holy and indescribable peace washed over him as he knew that he was being called to something much bigger.

“It was a revelation where God was telling me, ‘You’ve been doing this for you all this time, and now you’re going to do it for me,’” Evans fondly recalls. “I realized, ‘That’s why God has me here; that’s why I play this game.’”

While this moment was a time of clarity, Evans, after returning to the U.S. and seeking a spot in the NFL, found himself grappling with his identity, suffering rejection, disappointment, personal losses and personal injuries. In obedience, Evans accepted his call to ministry and enrolled at Dallas Theological Seminary. Five months in, he received a call from none other than his dream NFL team—the Dallas Cowboys. This time he would be walking through the tunnel onto the field as Chaplain.

I was used to winning, and I had to learn how to lose in order to become a winner again, said Evans. “God will use your greatest misery when he takes you to your greatest ministry. He never wastes anything.”

Journey’s Jonathan Cain Shares True Source and Inspiration Behind One of the Most Popular Songs of All Time, “Don’t Stop Believin’”

New I Am Second Film provides context and meaning to the lyrics of songs that have impacted generations

PLANO, Texas, August 25, 2022 — In a new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, keyboardist and songwriter for rock band Journey, Jonathan Cain, explains how his relationship with his father, through the transcendence of his Heavenly Father, influenced the lyrics for the rock ‘n roll hit, “Don’t Stop Believin’”, “Faithfully,” “Open Arms,” among others.

Growing up, Cain’s father was an instrumental figure in his life, encouraging him that the best was yet to come in his life. Cain survived two near-death experiences when he was young including a school fire when he was in the third grade that killed nearly 100 of his classmates. These experiences rattled his still-developing belief in Jesus Christ.

“My father saw my sorrow right away and led me straight to music,” said Cain. “He told me, ‘Son, your life was spared for something greater and that must be music.’”

Cain’s father enrolled him in a music school where he embraced his dad's vision, leading to years of honing his craft. In his twenties, he found himself financially struggling and was ready to give up. He called his father who said three words that Cain will never forget: “Don’t stop believing.” He wrote his father’s advice in his lyrics notebook, not realizing those words would change his career forever.

Not long after, Cain joined the band Journey and was tasked with writing a song for their new album. He looked through his lyrics notebook and found his father’s inspiring words. He wrote a melody for them, teamed up with his bandmates to complete a full song, and the rest is Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame history.

When his father passed away, Cain wasn’t sure how he would carry on.

“I always wrote my songs for him,” he shared. “Everything I did, every note I played, I could trace back to my father. One day, as I was weeping at the piano, I sensed God saying to me, ‘No Jon, it was me. I’ve always been the source. I’m where it comes from. You please me with your music.’ I thought, how did I miss that?”

Cain realized there was someone else in the room when he was crafting the lyrics to his famous songs including, “Don’t Stop Believin’” “Faithfully,” “Open Arms,” and “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).”

Suddenly Cain saw the lyrics differently. They had a new meaning. Following years of admiring his father’s steadfast faith in Jesus and wanting to impress him with his music, Cain realized his father’s influence in his life represented the love, guidance and inspiration of his Heavenly Father.

“That moment opened my eyes to the transcendence of a Heavenly Father reaching down to his son through his natural father. I know where it all comes from now.”

Today, Cain continues to tour with Journey and leads worship at his church. He aims to encourage others to press on toward their biggest dreams and never stop believing.

New I Am Second Film Explores One Mother’s Battle with Grief and Depression After Pregnancy

Author Julie Thomas Offers Viewers a Detailed Glimpse of Her Postpartum Depression and Her Escape from a Living Nightmare

PLANO, Texas, July 28, 2022 – In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, life coach and author, Julie Thomas, talks about the shame and darkness that once gripped her and how she found healing in sharing her story with others who have experienced the devastating effects of postpartum depression.

A mother to two healthy baby boys, Thomas should have been happy, but with the arrival of her second son came heavy pangs of anxiety and confusion. A recurring vision plagued her mind where she would imagine herself pacing a hospital hallway with an empty baby cart at the end of it.

“This reel that was playing in my head was so consistent. There was no off-switch,” said Thomas. “I lost all control of me.”

As debilitating depression and a severe form of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) began to consume her, it became difficult for Thomas to manage the realities of life and escape the nightmare in her head. In an attempt to cope with these complex emotions and the accompanying shame, Thomas hid.

“I tried to hide as much as I could,” said Thomas. “I did not make eye contact with people. I kept my house as dark as possible... That’s the kind of darkness that took over my life.”

Despite her efforts to silence the overwhelming chaos in her mind, Thomas couldn’t seem to escape, so she turned to other avenues. She describes how she would run away from home at night and even tried ending her own life.

“All that running – it didn’t help me,” said Thomas. “I was running away from me. I was running away from who I was and the person that was inside of me. And that person needed rescue.”

In the new film from I Am Second, Thomas shares how she came face-to-face with her loneliness and in her darkest hour, felt the light and presence of God.  Although it was very difficult at first, especially because of her Indian culture and the pressures she felt because of it, she began to share her story with people. In doing so, she discovered that others were suffering from crippling forms of anxiety and depression, too. Her openness helped her bring healing to others and encounter the light herself.

“God, for some reason, has spared me. Perhaps to tell this story today,” she said.

CDC research shows about one in eight women with a recent live birth suffers from symptoms of postpartum depression. Another study done by Postpartum Support International reveals that approximately 9% of women experience postpartum PTSD following childbirth.

To address these realities, Thomas has since written the book “HOPE Inside Out,” which details her struggle with depression and PTSD, as well as the hope she was able to find in God.

New I Am Second Film Offers Hope and Redemption from a Troubled Past

Ex-Con Michael Molthan Shares Move From a 27 Mug-Shot Record to Helping Bring Restoration to Fellow Inmates

PLANO, Texas, June 23, 2022 – In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, charismatic speaker and daily talk show host, Michael Molthan, shares about his past struggles, addiction, reaching rock bottom and looking for a way out of his messy life, before ultimately turning from felon to phenomenon.

As a child, Molthan experienced many hardships and trials from his father’s abandonment to his grandfather’s abuse.

“At a very young age, my grandfather started abusing me. It was the first time I kept a secret,” said Molthan. “I was being told by my parents that I was just like my grandfather – my mannerisms, the way I talked and even my handwriting. They told me I was going to grow up to be just like him. That was confusing to me.”

He struggled with feelings of loneliness, turned to drugs and alcohol, attempted suicide, and eventually landed himself in prison.

“In 2011, I had my first encounter with the law. I had arrived at a place I thought I would never go,” said Molthan. “After my first mug shot, I did everything I could to make it go away. I was becoming this man I thought I would never be.”

Over four years, Molthan accumulated 27 mug shots and was eventually transferred to a prison filled with murderers. In his four-by-nine cell, Molthan, overtaken by anxiety, paced back and forth; however, when he started reading the Bible, everything began to change. Then, one morning he awoke and describes an experience he had never had before.

“As I exhaled, all the hate, anger and resentment were coming out of my body,” said Molthan. “It was then that the Bible started making sense. I started reading to other inmates who could not read. The guards were amazed that we were so close and serving together.”

Three months after this encounter, Molthan was released from prison due to a paperwork error. He felt God tell him to go turn himself in, but the judge had heard about what Molthan had been doing in prison and gave him an unexpected assignment.

Recognizing that it was when he hit rock bottom that he found God, Molthan has now dedicated his life to helping others on their path to recovery by using his own personal experience, what it was like for him and how his life has changed today.

“Only God can turn a felon into a phenomenon,” he said.

New I Am Second Film Draws Attention to Military Veterans Coping With Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Iraq War Veteran Ben Peterson Shares How He Moved from Rage and Depression to Living a Life of Purpose and Passion

PLANO, Texas, May 12, 2022 — In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Engage Your Destiny, Ben Peterson, shares his story about the emotional trauma he carried home from combat, and how he eventually found healing and a renewed sense of purpose.

Peterson was raised in a home that included a heavy amount of turmoil. As he grew older, a desire to fight back took root in his heart to such a degree that he yearned to become someone strong and intimidating even dangerous. This pursuit led him to enroll in the U.S. military, where he served for eight years, including two years of deployment in Iraq.

Although Peterson had faith in God and served as an assistant chaplain in the Army, when he returned to the U.S., the emotional wounds he carried from the war were more than he was prepared to handle. He turned to destructive behaviors and, over time, his pain grew out of control to the extent that he was ready to end his life.

“Here I was, this chaplain assistant in ministry, a Christian guy who loves Jesus, but I was dealing with so much pain,” shares Peterson. “Between the nightmares and the overwhelming PTSD, I felt like a complete monster. I remember holding a handgun and processing whether I should take my life. I couldn't see another path forward.”

Just when Peterson’s anguish nearly overcame him, his mentor offered him an encouraging comparison to what Jesus’ disciples experienced when their Messiah was crucified. What they couldn't see amid their pain would soon be the greatest victory that the world had ever known.

"He said, ‘Ben, you're in so much pain and you don't understand why, but there's a victory beneath it,’” recalls Peterson. “‘If you hang in there, you're going to understand why you went through this and God will work it for good. There's going to be a resurrection day for your life. You're going to come back to life.’”

Peterson began to reengage with his faith and intentionally surrounded himself with people who could support him as he tried to heal from war. A renewed sense of hope for the future filled his heart.

What followed for Peterson was a deep calling to minister to other military veterans. He founded Engage Your Destiny, a nonprofit organization that leads active military veterans and their families into first-class resources where they can find hope, healing and identity through faith.

Several years ago, God gave Peterson a vision to honor Vietnam veterans who never received the tribute and celebration they deserved when they returned home from what was unquestionably a brutal and emotionally tormenting war. That vision has culminated into the Heroes Honor Festival, happening on Memorial Day weekend 2022 at Daytona International Speedway.

“We're going to give our Vietnam veterans the most incredible tribute and celebration that you can imagine,” Peterson said. “We're expecting tens of thousands of people, united in gratitude for the men and women who served, in many cases without choice, and didn’t receive the honor they were due. It’s one way that God can bring healing and hope to our veterans, to our active military and to their families.”

PLANO, Texas, April 7, 2022 — In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second Sarah Taylor, sports mental performance coach and former San Diego Fox Sports reporter, talks about her emotional trauma following an attempted abduction and how she found healing.

Taylor’s story of being assaulted by a human trafficker is not widely known. An avid runner, it was during one run several years ago that her life was forever changed.

“I Am Second chose to release Taylor’s story in April 2022, in conjunction with Sexual Assault Awareness Month to give context to her story and in hopes of helping others who have gone through similar situations,” said John Humphrey, Executive Producer of I Am Second. “Taylor’s story ties into the goals of the annual awareness campaign that aims to prevent sexual violence and support those who are affected by it.”

In the exclusive film, Taylor shares a detailed account of her assault as well as how she escaped the near kidnapping – both of which offer important education and awareness messages.

Although Taylor’s experience successfully aided in the shutting down of a major trafficking ring, the aftermath of her trauma didn’t end there. She was left with intense nightmares, debilitating fear and an absence of all joy.

“I was kind of left to go on as normal,” shares Taylor. “And I quickly realized that there was no going on as normal. All the happiness and joy that I usually carry with me was just stolen. That’s when I decided to seek help.”

Through her church, she found a therapist and began a faith-filled journey toward healing.

“Genuine authentic forgiveness was so important for me,” acknowledges Taylor. “That’s truthfully the only reason I feel like I’ve been able to heal from my biggest wounds. Although it took me many years, ultimately forgiveness brought me so much peace.”

Along with her husband, Trent, who plays football for the Cincinnati Bengals, Taylor is committed to bringing awareness of human trafficking to those who are unaware of its prevalence in our country. She hopes that her story will help other victims of assault or trafficking find peace and joy again.

“I made a decision that I’m going to pick up the pieces and I’m going to be better as a result of this,” said Taylor in the film. “Not only am I going to regain who Sarah was, but I’m going to come back stronger.”
