I am Second Releases Its 100th Film in Less Than Five Years

New York Times Bestselling Author Eric Metaxas’ Short Film
Marks Milestone

DALLAS, Texas, September 19, 2013 – In less than five years, I am Second, a movement centered around short films of transformation and hope, is launching its 100th film featuring New York Times bestselling author Eric Metaxas.  4

I am Second features video stories of a variety of musicians, athletes, actors and everyday people on iamsecond.com. To date, the website has received more than 10 million visits from 219 countries and territories. The I am Second films, which address an array of personal struggles, including abuse, addictions, pride, eating disorders, broken families and the search for success and meaning in life, have received a total of more than 20 million views. More than one-half million people “like” the I am Second Facebook page.

“When we developed the I am Second concept, we had no idea the quick growth and far-reaching impact it would have,” said Curtis Hail, president of e3 partners, which birthed I am Second just five years ago. “We are grateful for the 100 individuals who have officially shared their story through films on the website. But even more so, we are touched by the countless number of individuals who have seen I am Second and told us about their own experiences of discovering what it means to be ‘second.’ We believe this is only the beginning for the movement.”

Metaxas, who is author of the No. 1 New York Times bestselling book, “Bonheoffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy,” and radio host of “BreakPoint,” is featured in the 100th film from I am Second. In it, Metaxas shares his journey from doubt to faith through unusual circumstances.

“There’s no such thing as blind faith,” said Metaxas. “The whole idea of blind faith is misunderstanding faith. Faith can only be faith in what is real. This ridiculous idea which is so popular in our culture that if you want to believe you have to check your brain at the door. That’s absurd … some of the greatest minds I’ve ever met are people of faith in Jesus.”

Although Metaxas was raised in church, he experienced doubt through his college years at Yale. When his uncle became ill, he was struck by his Christian friends’ kindness in praying for him. Soon after, he experienced a dream that convinced him of God’s existence, and he accepted the Christian faith.

“People say that faith is a leap into the dark,” said Metaxas. “Let’s switch that cliché. Faith is a leap into the light.”

3Prior to releasing the film to the public today, I am Second debuted it at a special 100th film celebration in Dallas on Sept. 18. I am Second Live, a late-night TV styled event, was hosted Metaxas and featured additional individuals who have joined I am Second including Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton, Hookers for Jesus founder Annie Lobert and Navy Seal Remi Adeleke.

Founded in Dallas-Fort Worth in December 2008, iamsecond.com quickly spread virally across the globe, and has since officially launched in Nashville, Tenn., Orlando, Fla., Evansville, Ind., and Kansas City, Mo., with several other cities planned for the future. In addition, I am Second officially unveiled a Spanish website, yosoysegundo.com, in February.

I am Second has released two books through Thomas Nelson – “I am Second: Real Stories. Changing Lives” and “Live Second.” The movement also offers numerous curriculums to accompany films as well as volunteer opportunities and expeditions to help encourage people to live second daily.

Athletes, actors, models, musicians, pastors, politicians and many more have stepped forward, looked in the camera and proclaimed, “I am Second.” But most in the iamsecond.com movement and its Spanish counterpart yosoysegundo.com are ordinary people with stories of hope and transformation.
