Joni and Friends Board Member John Nugent to Become Chairman of the Board
Current board member has long-time history with ministry
AGOURA HILLS, Calif., June 16, 2015 – Joni and Friends International Disability Center has announced a new Chairman of the International Board of Directors. John Nugent has served on the board since Jan., 2010, and has been associated with Joni and Friends since 1996.
Nugent has served in the high-technology industry for over 30 years. He began his sales career at Software International and left there to work for Oracle Corporation, where he spent 17 years in various senior management positions. He then worked at SAP where he held several executive positions before serving as President and CEO of Serena Software.
“John’s long list of accomplishments in the corporate world tell of his character, hard work and management ability,” said Joni and Friends president Doug Mazza. “John has served Joni and Friends well as both a volunteer and a board member, and we look forward to his leadership of our Board.”
Nugent and his wife Marilyn have been married for 24 years, and share a passion for couples ministry, and have served on the Board of Home Improvement Ministry. They actively participate in ministry at Bethel Christian Church in San Francisco, where John serves as a deacon. Nugent and his wife became active participants with Joni and Friends when Marilyn introduced John to the ministry that had been such a blessing to her after her mother suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and stroke at the age of 43. Joni and Friends quickly became Nugent’s favorite cause.
“I have loved serving on the International Board of Directors for Joni and Friends these past five years, and have enjoyed seeing the ministry grow and reach some significant milestones,” Nugent said. “But, we know that more can be done to reach and meet the needs of those with disabilities. Joni and Friends brings hope in practical and spiritual ways to those who deal with unyielding disability on a daily basis, including those who love and care for them. I am humbled and excited about the opportunity to work with this caring team of men and women to further advance the work of Joni and Friends as we bring the ‘Good News’ of God’s love and our care for those who suffer all around the globe.”
For more 35 years, Joni and Friends has worked to accelerate ministry to the disability community around the world, offering a wide array of life-affirming ministries, including the Christian Institute on Disability; the International Disability Center; international radio and television programs filled with inspirational stories; and Family Retreats, where families affected by disability learn they are not alone.
