Julie Shutley brings a broad communications skill set, including crisis communications expertise, to ALRC after spending many years on Capitol Hill working with members of the House of Representatives, key opinion leaders and the national press corps. Ms. Shutley served as Deputy Communications Director at the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), where she helped oversee a highly aggressive earned media operation that shaped press coverage in battleground races nationwide and was the primary media relations counsel for House members facing tough re-election battles. As an official spokeswoman for the NRCC, Ms. Shutley has been quoted in both national and local publications including USA Today, The New York Times, Politico and The Washington Post. As press secretary for Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04), Ms. Shutley developed and implemented a comprehensive media plan and grassroots outreach program that was instrumental to Congressman Cole’s re-election bid.
Ms. Shutley began her communications career in Oklahoma City, where she worked as Communications Director for the Oklahoma State Republican Party. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Southern Nazarene University, where she also served as editor-in-chief of The Arrow, the university’s award-winning yearbook.
