Kay Warren, Dr. Ed Stetzer and Dr. Jared Pingleton Slated to Release and Discuss New Research on Acute Mental Illness and Christian Faith

One in four Americans deal with a mental illness. Many look to their church for spiritual guidance in times of distress, but is the church prepared, willing and able to help?

In fact, about a quarter of pastors are reluctant to help those who suffer from acute mental illness, because “it takes too much time” and many senior Protestant pastors seldom speak on the topic.

These and many other findings from a robust study on faith and mental illness will be released Sept. 22, 2014, during a media call with national ministry experts and psychology leaders.

Kay Warren – Best selling author, speaker, mental illness advocate and co-founder of Saddleback Church
Dr. Ed Stetzer – Executive Director of LifeWay Research
Dr. Jared Pingleton – Director, Counseling Services at Focus on the Family

2 p.m., Eastern, Monday, Sept. 22, 2014

Nashville-based LifeWay Research and co-sponsor Focus on the Family designed the in-depth study to help churches better respond to those impacted.

During the call:

  • Stetzer will announce the primary findings of the survey.
  • Pingleton will discuss the “disconnects” between the church and those affected by mental illness.
  • Warren will share her personal experience and present the response from Saddleback Church.
  • The panel will answer media questions.
