More Than 30 Area Churches Partner to Host Community Events in Effingham

EFFINGHAM, Ga., March 5, 2013 – More than 30 area churches are partnering to host the Effingham Adventure Weekend April 11-14 featuring national speaker and outdoorsman Jay Lowder. With student, women and men’s events as well as an outdoor expo and celebration rally, the weekend includes activities for the entire family.

Jay_125x150“We live in difficult times; our nation is in financial distress, marriages are falling apart and many young people are making detrimental decisions in an effort to escape the confusion and pain they feel,” said Lowder. “It is my desire that those in the community who are in need of hope and searching for answers will not miss the Effingham Adventure Weekend, because I believe it will change lives.”

The Effingham Adventure Weekend will kick-off Thursday, April 11 at 5:45 p.m. with the Xtreme Student Night at Effingham County High School for students 7th through 12th grade and will feature music from the local band, Dayspring Reliance, and a message from Lowder. A Women’s Banquet featuring national speaker and singer LaDonna Gatlin will be held Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m. at Effingham County High School.

Saturday, April 13 will be geared toward families with a full-day Outdoor Expo held in the Effingham County High School parking lot. In addition to a variety of games, bounce houses, a climbing wall, car show, silent auction and vendor booths, world-renowned hunting dog trainer Hank Hough of Kingdom Dog Ministries will teach valuable life lessons with his AKC-registered Labrador Retrievers. The Outdoor Expo will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with no charge for admission.

Men of the community are invited to the Xtraordinary Sport’s Event Saturday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Effingham County Maintenance Department Building. The event will include a dinner and showcase of outdoor sports products and services. Special guest Hough will provide a Labrador training demonstration while Lowder will share life lessons he has learned while hunting and fishing.

The Effingham Adventure Weekend will end Sunday, April 14 at 6 p.m. with a Celebration Rally at the Effingham County High School Football Stadium. Musician Charles Billingsley will lead worship while Lowder will bring a message of hope and faith to attendees.

“The Effingham Adventure Weekend is an opportunity for our local faith community to give back to our neighbors,” said Sherri Gordy, team leader of the Effingham Adventure Weekend. “We invite everyone – from the young to the young at heart – to take part in the weekend’s activities, which we are confident will not only be extremely fun but also provide hope to those in need.”

All events during the Effingham Adventure Weekend are free of charge, excluding the Women’s Banquet and Men’s Xtraordinary Sport’s Event for which $10 tickets are available through March 31. For additional information, visit
