Britney Ruby Miller Shares About the Fight of Her Life in New I Am Second Film
Out of Perfection and Into Freedom, Restauranteur Shares her Journey of Getting Knocked Down and Getting Back up Again...and Again
PLANO, Texas, December 13, 2022 — In the new White Chair Film released by global storytelling organization I Am Second, Britney Ruby Miller, CEO of Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment, talks about her journey up the food chain from hostess to CEO and her long battle with anxiety and perfectionism along the way.
Growing up in a successful family-owned business, comprised of seven restaurants, 850 employees and awarded “Best Steakhouses in America” by Travel + Leisure and USA Today, Britney placed high expectations on herself and constantly sought perfection. Lack of sleep and stress manifested itself in seizures during her senior year of college. This anxiety would follow her through school and eventually bleed into every part of her adult life.
“I feel like I've been a fighter my whole life,” Britney asserts, referring to her family’s business, her marriage, her children and her mental battle.
In the newest White Chair film from I Am Second, Britney discusses all the challenges in life that knocked her down:
Fear and anxiety about her health and the wake-up call she had in college to take care of herself and her well-being
Learning from her husband, Caleb Miller, a former linebacker with the Cincinnati Bengals, that he had been unfaithful to her during their engagement and was suffering from depression
The agony of a miscarriage, a neural tube defect and an ectopic pregnancy, discovering that she had a very slim chance of ever having children
Being hit by a drunk driver and dealing with the “what ifs”
The heartbreak of having to shut down restaurants and furlough 600 employees overnight during the COVID-19 pandemic
Through it all, Britney has learned that she gains nothing from perfectionism and has found healing from anxiety and fear.
“If I’m being told something in my head that is not of God, which is fear, which is not love, then I know it is a lie,” says Britney in the film. “I have moments when my anxiety creeps in and I immediately say to myself, ‘Recognize that this is a lie.’ And I speak truth into my spirit. I pray.”
She also shares the reason for never giving up was that her “ride or die” was always in her corner, encouraging Miller to lean on her faith in the depths of challenges.
“It’s all worth it to fight: to fight for your life, fight for your marriage, fight for your well-being,” Britney concluded. “I just fought like crazy and God honored that.”
