In Today’s Disrespectful Political Climate, Pastor Rich Wilkerson Sr. Says, ‘I Choose Honor’

Newest Book to Release from Charisma House April 2

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 30, 2019 – Miami-based pastor and author Rich Wilkerson Sr. invites readers in his upcoming book, “I Choose Honor,” to join him in a cultural shift that focuses on respect and kindness in a day when name-calling and bullying have become the norm. Subtitled “The Key to Relationships, Faith and Life,” the book is set to release from Charisma House on April 2, 2019 ( $17.99, ISBN-13: 978-1-62999-569-4).

Wilkerson’s vast experience traveling all over the world and interacting with a wide variety of people has taught him this: “honor is the solution and the heavenly prescription for living among the races, creeds, and cultures of people.” He agrees it’s a lesson never more needed than at this time in our nation’s history, and he hopes readers will reap the benefit of applying the “honor way” in their own lives.

“Honor is how championship sports teams are built, and that’s how championship, life-giving churches are built as well,” Wilkerson writes. “Most of all, that is how brokenness is mended and healed. It all comes through bestowing honor on the people around us, just as Jesus did. By doing this, we are creating a culture of honor, ascribing worth and dignity to every person who crosses our path.”

In living this honor lifestyle, Wilkerson has discovered that it includes five keys for nurturing healthy relationships: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. He shares how each of these qualities contributes to healthy relationships, and how we can cultivate them in our lives. “By focusing on the fact that every person is God’s creation and deserves honor, we are less likely to develop unhealthy, selfish relationships,” he adds.

Wilkerson believes honor is also the answer to today’s caustic public discourse. “That is how the Holy Spirit helps us defend ourselves against our culture,” he explains. “Honor requires us to treat one another kindly, not make fun of one another. Your life and how you live it matter to God and to others — it matters greatly. How you honor God and others will influence people in ways you can’t imagine.”

Reminding readers that “all honor ultimately belongs to God,” Wilkerson reiterates the biblical admonition to “Honor one another above yourselves,” as the Apostle Paul writes in Romans 12:10. “Remember, we are called to honor everyone. We are all part of the body of Christ, and when we honor others we are honoring that relationship. Devotion and honor should guide our every interaction,” Wilkerson states.

“I Choose Honor” concludes with the premise that honoring God should be our ultimate motivation. “When we honor others, we honor Him. When we honor those we would rather turn away from, we honor Him. When we honor our parents, our spouse, and our children, we are honoring God. When we create circles of honor with those around us, we are honoring God. When we honor His creation, we are honoring God. Each time we choose honor, each time we love those whom God loves, we worship Him.”
