Museum of the Bible Celebrates 5th Anniversary

Upcoming Exhibits, Events Keep Museum’s Future Bright

WASHINGTON, Nov. 10, 2022 – With a remarkable first five years under its belt, the Museum of the Bible has cemented its place as one of the must-see attractions for visitors to the Capitol, and has helped millions of individuals engage with Scripture in new ways as a result of its impactful exhibits.

“It has been so gratifying over the last few years to see how well received the Museum of the Bible has been,” said museum CEO Harry Hargrave. “We have shown that a museum about the Bible can be an exciting, engaging place of interaction and learning, highlighting the Bible’s relevance to culture, rather than a static building with shelves of dry, dusty books, as many people might have expected.”

Since November 17, 2017, when the museum first opened its doors, it has hosted ___ special exhibits, __ permanent exhibits, __ events or presentations in its World Stage Theater, and an uncountable number of exhibit lectures, virtual and educational experiences and events held by like-minded organizations making use of the museum’s spectacular “Gathering Room,” specifically designed for such use.

“While we are grateful for all of these accomplishments,” Hargrave added, “what means the most to us is when we walk through an exhibit and hear our guests say, ‘Wow, I never realized that before!’ or ‘I always wondered where that came from,’ in recognition of the Bible’s influence on culture, literature, music, filmmaking or the like. It is truly more than just another book, and we are excited about even more future opportunities to communicate that fact.”

Following December’s busy schedule of special holiday sights and sounds relating to probably the most familiar biblical account of all time – the birth of Christ – January kicks off both an exciting new exhibit and one of the year’s most anticipated theatrical events. The “Scripture and Science” exhibit launches Jan. 19, showing that there is no disagreement between the Bible and scientific fields of study. The exhibit will share numerous examples of how it was actually Scripture that inspired many of the world’s most important scientific discoveries.

Then, on Jan. 20, C.S. Lewis’ “A Horse and His Boy” from the beloved author’s “Chronicles of Narnia” series launches its live-action theatrical run. Next, a new “Personal Stories” exhibit opens in February, focusing on the life of renowned missionary Elizabeth Elliott. As always, regular events include virtual archaeology tours, the “Lunch & Learn” series on a variety of topics, homeschool and educational events for young people, conferences and speaker series, and concerts with special guest artists.

“We are so excited about all the many wonderful events we have planned for 2023 and beyond,” said Shannon Bennett, chief marketing officer. “While we may come from different faith, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, when we get together to brainstorm ideas, we are all united in our passion for sharing the story of the Bible’s impact on culture, and in encouraging engagement with Scripture. I don’t think we’ll ever run out of ideas for entertaining and enlightening new exhibits and features.”
