Most Awarded Christian Female Singer Opens Up about Abuse, Divorce and Self Doubt

Sandi Patty Gives Voice to the Voiceless in New Memoir Releasing November 6, 2018

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., July 2018 — While the current culture continues to celebrate and encourage women to use their voice, there are still many who lack the courage. As someone who endured sexual abuse as a child, divorce after marital infidelity and a constant battle with negative self-image, music icon and 5-time Grammy winner and 40-time Dove Award winner Sandi Patty understands this struggle. For the first time in her latest book, The Voice: Listening for God’s Voice and Finding Your Own, she reveals how she found her voice within the context of God’s design for her life and helps others do the same.

Sandi lived much of her life feeling unworthy of love or value. Like so many, she coped by living through the voices of others, allowing them to prescribe her identity. But as she performed around the world, Sandi met others just like her, who hid wounds behind quiet smiles and struggled to live with fractured identities.

“God heard my voice even when I couldn’t hear it myself, and then his voice broke through my walls and shame and wounds and insecurities and self-doubts,” writes Sandi in The Voice. “He pried away the stranglehold they had on my voice and unleashed me to appreciate and express who he designed me to be.”

In The Voice, Sandi shares incredibly raw and deeply intimate stories of her life and the empowering spiritual truths she’s learned through her personal battles. She offers readers wisdom through her experience to navigate the journey from voicelessness to discovering the unique voice God has given them.

“I’ve been on a tremendous journey of discovery, a journey that I now feel compelled to share with all the others who, for a host of reasons, struggle with a voicelessness of their own. Once I began sharing my journey, I discovered I was far from alone,” Sandi writes in The Voice. ”I discovered a secret too important to keep to myself, I want to do what I can to help others open the floodgates of their voices. If we listen for God’s voice singing into our lives, we will discover the marvelous voice he has designed for each of us.”

The Voice, which Sandi co-wrote with Cindy Lambert, will release from Zondervan on Nov. 6, 2018. For additional information, visit https://www.sandipatty.com/voice/.
