Churches, Other Groups Can Screen Movie Free for Sept. 11
TAMPA, Fla., July 11, 2018 –SOF Missions, which supports warriors who struggle with PTSD and gives them the tools to overcome the after-effects of combat, is offering a free showing of its film, “Surrender Only To One,” to churches and other organizations on Patriot Day, the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

“Many of our warriors come home with unseen wounds only God can heal,” said Air Force Lt. Col. Damon Friedman, the executive producer of the film and founder of SOF Missions. “‘Surrender Only to One’ is their story. By surrendering to God, they can be whole again.”
“Surrender Only to One” is a docudrama that tells the true story of five men and one woman, all Special Forces operators from various branches of the military. They served in America’s longest war – the War on Terror that began on Sept. 11, 2001 when Islamic terrorists seized four airliners, crashing two into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, and killed almost 3,000 people.
“Veterans often experience tremendous grief over the loss of comrades and guilt over decisions they made and actions they took while fighting for America’s freedoms,” said Friedman, who earned three Bronze Stars during four combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. “Many of them also experience a deep sense of hopelessness and loss of purpose when they return to civilian life. They feel isolated and alone, unable to reconnect to family and friends.”
According to the Veterans Administration, some 20 veterans commit suicide every day – 10 times the number who die in combat. Veterans often cope with grief, anger, guilt and shame, which can lead to problems such as domestic violence, substance abuse and divorce.
The movie will be part of a 90-minute video package including interviews with special guests about 9-11 and the events following it. Participating churches and other organizations can show the video anytime between Sept. 11 and Sept. 16.
“We want churches to know that SOF Missions has a number of programs that will help them serve the veterans in their congregations, and we want veterans who are hurting to be inspired to reach out and ask for help,” Friedman said.
SOF Missions, which is based in Tampa, also will offer a free screening of “Surrender Only To One” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Tampa Theatre.
