BOSTON, Oct. 15, 2019 - Sattler College in Boston has launched a new one-year certificate in biblical and religious studies to enable more students to take part in its innovative training in biblical languages, theology, and Christian discipleship. This new initiative is a practical option for students seeking to start or resume their higher education at a high-quality, faith-based institution for a low cost.

“We realize that many individuals want to get an education from a college that will enhance their faith, but oftentimes, private Christian colleges are not financially attainable. Sattler never wants a student to settle for less on account of cost,” said Dr. Finny Kuruvilla, Sattler founder, professor, and Board of Trustees member. “This one-year certificate is highly practical for those who may be constrained by their time or finances. Students who feel called to pursue ministry can gain an excellent foundation within this program, and it’s equally beneficial for those seeking to study the Bible and religion in greater depth.”

Students will complete the one-year certificate at the Sattler campus in the heart of Boston. The program consists of nine courses in religious and biblical studies, including Sattler’s popular “communicative” instruction in biblical Greek. While these courses are designed to prepare students for biblical exposition and church ministry after one year, the course credits also apply directly toward a four-year degree at Sattler, should students decide to stay and continue their education.

“For students who are paying their way through school, are working 9-5 jobs or who simply want to get their feet wet into higher education to see if they would like to go further, this one-year certificate is the ideal solution,” said Kuruvilla. “Not only are program participants receiving a practical education that accommodates their needs, but they obtain faith-training as well.”

All Sattler students take courses in Koine Greek, biblical doctrines and apologetics to acquire a thorough understanding of the Bible. Four-year students are also required to learn biblical Hebrew.

As part of the school’s mission to cultivate a community of discipleship, Sattler matches each student with a mentor of strong Christian character to meet with weekly. Many students also become deeply engaged in service to the Boston community through college-sponsored work-study and volunteer opportunities. These commitments are direct implementations of Sattler’s foundational focuses: a classic core curriculum, low cost, and Christian character.

Applications for the 2019-2020 academic year are due February 1, 2020. Students can now enroll in the one-year biblical and religious studies certificate. To learn more, visit https://www.sattlercollege.org/brscertificate.
